Sri Lanka Minister of Public Relations Mervyn Silva has reportedly manhandled a representative of a parent-teacher association of a school in his electorate, Kelaniya, Sri Lanka media reported.
The victim has protested a move by the school to sell tickets to collect money to build a swimming pool for Dharmaloka College, Kelaniya.
The Minister has reportedly summoned the parent to the school and threatened him.
Collecting money from students in the guise of various development projects has become a common practice of schools in Sri Lanka, although the government has banned it, the teachers' unions say.
