Leader of Sri Lanka's National Freedom Front (NFF) and Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa says it is the government, and not the Tamil Diaspora or even some Tamil political parties, that addresses the real needs of the war affected Tamil people.
Speaking during an event to launch a housing project in Mullaitivu, Weerawansa has said that some parliamentarians from the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) were not keen to resolve the issues faced by the Northern Tamil people, as they used the issues for their political survival. He has said that neither the Tamil Diaspora nor the TNA parliamentarians who raise issues in parliament have done anything to address the real needs of the war affected people in the North.
The first phase of the project to build 200 houses started in Panichchankulam in Mullaitivu Wednesday.
The Housing and Common Amenities Ministry and the Resettlement Ministry have planned to build 2000 houses per year in all five districts in the Northern Province.
