a Sri Lankan government minister says that some elements were trying to push the country backwards through a psychological operation when the country should move forward and warned that those who spread baseless rumors will be severely dealt with.
General Secretary of the Sinhala nationalist party Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU), a constituent party of Sri Lanka's governing United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka has observed that certain forces were engaged in activities that challenged the security of the country.
Speaking during the JHU's 8th annual convention, Ranawaka has said the rumors being spread of a Grease Devil were aimed at tarnishing the image of the armed forces and to bring disrepute to them.
Noting the 30-year struggle to free the country from the clutches of terrorism the Minister said the people must safeguard the hard-earned peace prevailing in the country now.
"We have to protect the peace we gained and protect dignity while developing and leading the country to the future. We should develop the country to suit our culture, people, religions and races. We do not need to follow any other Asian country," Ranawaka has said.
