It's almost the end of the road for Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa. CNN-IBN has learnt that the scam tainted BJP chief minister could well be on his way out.
Sources have told CNN-IBN that the Karnataka Lokyayukta has recommended the prosecution of Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa under the prevention of corruption act. The Yeddyurappa family has been accused of taking bribes from mining companies.
According to sources, the Reddy brothers are likely to be asked to pay up for loss to exchequer.
Former Karnataka Chief Minister Kumaraswamy and Congress MP Anil Lad have also been named in the report, say sources.
Sources add that the JD-S leader has been named in the report for granting leases illegally to mining company. However, sources say that unlike Yeddyurappa, the report does not recommend his prosecution.
It seems there is trouble for the Congress as well with sources adding that its Rajya Sabha MP and mining magnate Anil Lad has also being named in the report.
Ahead of submission of his report, Karnataka Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde
on Wednesday said he does not believe the government would act on his
findings.
"As I said yesterday, I don't believe the Government will take action," said Justice Santosh Hegde on Wednesday.
"They (the State government) took the first (interim) report (submitted in December 2008) but did not take action".
Asked if he would also submit the report to the Supreme Court, Hegde said the apex Court had not sought it.
"If asked, I will have to give it, and I will give it. Otherwise, someone else may give it," he said.
Last week, Hegde had said the "Supreme Court is my only hope."
He said leakage of the report does not mean it has lost its "significance". It's just that somebody got it in advance. "It's not (like) leak of question paper (in examination)."
Hegde said he has mentioned in the report about "possible threat" to Lokayukta (five) officials who were involved in the enquiry. "And I have not said that there is already a threat".
He said these Lokayukta officials might have displeased a number of people (by probing into their illegal affairs) and there is a possibility that their future could be in jeopardy.
