Hundreds of complaints on corruption in Sri Lanka's prison system

Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms Ministry of Sri Lanka says that a special investigations unit set up at the Ministry has received hundreds of complaints on corruption and irregularities among senior prison officials.

Prison Reforms and Rehabilitation Minister Chandrasiri Gajadeera has said the investigations unit has received over 300 complaints on corruption and irregularities in the prisons.

He has said that the complaints have been received about officials at the Prison Headquarters and those in several other prisons.

Gajadeera has stressed that the investigations unit, headed by a legal consultant would conduct an inquiry in to every complaint.

He has added that disciplinary action would be taken against those found guilty.
