Sri Lanka major opposition wants TRC to probe a report on a website

General Secretary of Sri Lanka's major opposition United National Party (UNP), Tissa Attanayake urged the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission TRC) to launch a probe regarding a report posted on a website.

The relevant website reported that the UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa had stated that he would grab the party leadership making the present leader Ranil Wickremasinghe to suffer the fate of former Marxist Rohana Wijeweera.

Wijeweera who led an armed rebellion in the late 1980s was eliminated by state forces when Sajith Premadasa's father R. Premadasa was the President.

UNP General Secretary said the Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa denied the report when the matter was raised to him by the party.

UNP leader Ranil Wickremasinghe had told that it was a threat to life, media reported.
