Marxist party cancels seminar on Indian intervention in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka's Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has cancelled the launching of its seminar series against the Indian intervention in the country scheduled for today as a mark of respect to the Katunayake FTZ worker who succumbed to his injuries last night.

The series of seminars was to commence today at the Viharamahadevi open air theatre under the patronage of party secretary Tilvin Silva.

Silva was to speak of the government's double standards in the face of international intervention focusing mainly on the recent visit of External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris to India and the agreements reached.

The JVP media unit said the seminar would be re-scheduled for another day. The unit said the party members would instead participate in a protest organized against the police attack on FTZ workers and the death of one of the injured workers.
