Main opposition of Sri Lanka blames business mafia for dengue and kidney diseases

The main opposition of Sri Lanka United National Party (UNP) has today blamed a mafia in the country's business sector for the spreading of dengue and the kidney diseases in the North Central Province and adjoining areas.

UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake at a press conference alleged that the importing pesticides to the country have allowed the mosquitoes to breed and the companies have imported agro chemicals that contain arsenic.

He said that a business mafia was therefore responsible for the mosquito menace and kidney diseases in the country.

Meanwhile, the UNP has also objected to the government's move to allocate 1,000 slots in the local universities to foreign students.

According to Attanayake, this situation would further limit the opportunities available for local students to study in universities.
