Detained rebel leader KP claims to know where LTTE money is

The detained senior rebel leader Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP says he knows where the money of the vanquished terrorist group, Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) is kept after their defeat in 2009 May by the Sri Lankan government.

"I know who is having the large sums of money belonging to the LTTE. I know this will be a difficult job but I will try to find that money in order to help Tamil people," a PTI report said quoting a statement made by KP to the BBC.

KP, who was arrested by the Sri Lankan authorities in Malaysia in August 2009 and brought to Sri Lanka, has told BBC that he was trying to secure the release of thousands of former LTTE cadres held by the government.

The former rebel leader has said that he had played a lead role in forming the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam while residing in Malaysia.

"Now it is a different situation. What is important now is to create a better future for the Tamils," he has said.

He has expressed his desire to cooperate in rehabilitation and reconstruction of war-hit areas in the north and east regions of the country.

KP's name has reportedly been re-included in the Interpol list following his media interview. He is wanted for crimes involving the use of weapons/explosives, criminal conspiracy and terrorism.

While remaining under government's detention, KP has expressed desire to cooperate with the government in rehabilitation and reconciliation process and work with the Tamil diaspora to achieve that goal.
