Higher Education Minister of Sri Lanka S.B. Dissanayake has assured the safety of the new entrants to the universities, who are to participate in the proposed leadership training programme in military camps.
Dissanayake had given the assurance to the parents of students who had been asked to report to the training programme.
The Minister has said that the programme for the university students cost the government a staggering Rs. 200 million.
Dissanayake had called on all parents to send their children to the respective military camps to report for the leadership training program.
All 20,000 students of the new batch are to be trained under the programme in two sessions. The initial group is to include 5,931 female and 4,069 male students.
They will be provided training at 28 centers under the Defense Ministry. The duration of the training course is three weeks.
