The Sri Lankan government has decided to close all the government institutes in Colombo Municipal Council area tomorrow in preparation for the Victory Day celebrations scheduled to be held at the Gall Face Green in downtown Colombo.
Accordingly, all the schools also will be closed in the Colombo Municipal Council area.
The secretary of the Ministry of State Administration said that tomorrow will be a holiday for government offices.
The Victory Day parades celebrating the second anniversary of the military victory over the armed separatists will be held at the Galle Face Green under the auspicious of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Sri Lanka militarily defeated the Tamil Tiger terrorist group Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in May 2009 and successfully ended the three-decade long civil war.
A large number of local and foreign VIPs are expected to participate in the celebrations. Police and armed forces have tightened security and a special traffic plan is in force.
More than nine thousand military personnel from all three armed forces army, navy and air force, civil defence force and police will participate in the event displaying tanks, aircraft, and ships used for the military operation.
A separate guard of honour for the war heroes will be held under the patronage of the President in front of the War Heroes Monument in the parliament grounds tomorrow evening.
