President praises health workers of Sri Lanka on International Family Health Day

Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa said today the family health workers should be honored for bringing down the country's mortality rate among children and expectant mothers.


In a ceremony held today at Temple Trees to mark the International Family Health Day, the President said there was a major link between the family health workers and the villages and they can play an important role to educate the public of the use of nutritious food in an effort curb unhealthy eating patterns.


The President bestowed a special honor on Ms. Lalitha Padmini who was selected as the best family health service officer in the Asia Pacific Region and one of the four excellent health workers in the world.
Health Minister, Maithripala Sirisena, Deputy Minister Lalith Dissanayake, Governor of the Western Provincial Council, Alavi Moulana, Health Ministry Secretary Dr. C.R.C. Ruberu and the President of the Public Service Trade Union, W.H. Piyadasa also participated in the occasion.
