Sri Lankan President to offer prayers for the cricket team in Tirupati

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa is to offer prayers for the success of the Sri Lankan cricket team at the Lord Venkateswara hill shrine near Tirupati in India ahead of the World Cup finals scheduled for tomorrow, the Indian media reported today.


The final match of the Cricket World Cup is to be played between India and Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The PTI has reported quoting temple sources that the Sri Lankan President is scheduled to visit the temple tonight or in the early hours of Saturday.

The report states that Rajapaksa, who is an ardent devotee of Lord Venkateswara would stay overnight on the hills and would fly to Mumbai to watch the final at the Wankhede stadium on Saturday.

The report further says that the Sri Lankan President will arrive at Renigunta Airport, 15kms from Tirupati, by a special SriLankan aircraft at 16:00hrs and reach the hills by road.
