Sri Lanka Nurses Council elects members

The results of the first ever Sri Lanka Nurses Council election is to be released today at the Ministry of Health.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Health Ravindra Ruberu, the Additional Secretary Sarath Chandrasiri Vithana, Director General of Health Services Ajith Mendis, and the candidates contested for the Nursing Council election will be present at the Ministry auditorium when the election results will be released.
The election for the 20-member Sri Lanka Nursing Council was held on April 09 at 21 centers island wide.

According to the Minister of Health Maithripala Sirisena the main aim of establishing a Nurses Council is to provide the public with a more efficient service.

The Nurse Council is tasked with maintaining a database of all nurses in the country, establishing a code of conduct, and providing nurses with essential education.

Sri Lanka Nurses Council was established under the Sri Lanka Nurses Council (Amendment) Act, No: 35 of 2005.
