Sri Lanka's Cooperatives and Internal Trade Ministry has said that it would purchase fruits and vegetables directly from the farmers to reduce the gap between the wholesale and retail prices.
Cooperatives and Internal Trade Minister Johnston Fernando has told the media that the Ministry would also purchase fruits and vegetables directly from the farmers in the North and East.
According to the Minister, the reduction in prices would create a competitive market for the farmers.
Fernando has said the Paddy Marketing Board has meanwhile commenced purchasing paddy from the farmers in the North and East.
