In an incident that is set to raise a storm in poll-bound Tamil Nadu, a government driver was found dead on Tuesday, with a ‘suicide note’ recovered from his clothes blaming Union Minister and DMK’s Madurai strongman M K Alagiri for the death.
The body of Murugesan, 51, a former driver of an earlier District Collector, was spotted near a water body here. He was found burnt to death. From his clothes, which he is believed to have removed before setting himself afire, a note was found in which Murugesan blamed Alagiri and a few officials, said highly placed sources, who refused to be named.
Local sources said Murugesan had also worked as a driver for Alagiri at least for a little while, though it could not be confirmed. The handwriting in the suicide note was being verified, said sources. The police are yet to receive the post-mortem report to conclude whether this was a suicide or a murder. There are also suspicions that Murugesan had trouble within the family which could have pushed him into taking his life.
