Christian teaching of love can strengthen reconciliation - Sri Lankan President

The Christian teaching of love and understanding can contribute much to strengthen the reconciliation now taking place in Sri Lanka and help the country to move towards lasting unity, Sri Lankan President has said in his Easter message.

He has said that the teaching of Christ can also help to free people and nations from the many conflicts that threaten peace in the world.

Full text of his Easter message:

The festival of Easter celebrated today is of special significance to Christians as it marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ three days after his crucifixion and death at Calvary.

Born among humans, Christ devoted his years of preaching to spread a message of understanding tolerance and compassion that came from his core message of love to all beings. It was Christ's mission to save mankind from the burden of sin which he took upon himself.

The Christian teaching of love and understanding can contribute much to strengthen the reconciliation now taking place in our country and help us move towards lasting unity. Similarly, the teaching of Christ can also help in freeing people and nations from the many conflicts that threaten peace the world over.

I trust that every Christian in Sri Lanka, whose belief in the divinity of Christ has been strengthened by his resurrection, will help spread his message of love and understanding throughout our land.
