3 killed as goods train hits car at unmanned crossing in Tamil Nadu

three PMK workers were killed and another injured when a goods train rammed into their car at an unmanned railway level crossing near Neyveli in the district today, police said.


The victims from Vridachalam were on their way to attend an election meeting to be addressed by local PMK MLA when the mishap occurred at Velikunan Kurichi village, they said.

The goods train, carrying lignite for a private thermal power plant at Oumangalam village near Neyveli, dashed against the car killing three persons, including the driver, on the spot.

The other occupant of the car who was seriously injured had been admitted to a Neyveli hospital, police said.
