Two Sri Lankan Air Force fighter jets collide in mid-air

Two Israeli-built Kfir fighter jets of the Sri Lankan Air Force on a fly pass rehearsal have collided with each other and crashed near Yakkala in Gampaha this morning, the Defence Ministry reported.

The aircraft were reportedly rehearsing for the air show to be displayed at the 60th Anniversary celebrations of the Sri Lanka Air Force that begins on Wednesday.

Casualties from the accident are still unknown, an Air Force spokesman has told local media.

An Air Force announcement on the event says during the mega celebration the Air Force would "exhibit its adventurous feats such as Air operations and rescue operations in the sky to delight the spectators."

Celebrations are to begin tomorrow and continue until March 10 at the Ratmalana Air Force Base.
