TN Congress: Elangovan supporters unmoved

Continuing to press for his inclusion in the five-member Tamil Nadu Congress election panel, supporters of former TNCC president EVKS Elangovan, including an MLA, walked out of a party consultative meeting here.
"He should be accommodated in the panel. This is the aspiration of Congress workers in Tamil Nadu," RM Palanisamy MLA, told reporters after walking out of the meeting held to discuss party's prospects in the assembly polls due in May.
He and another legislator, Rani Venkatesan, had staged a walkout on Sunday too on the same issue. Palanisamy was today accompanied by some district secretaries of the party, also supporters of Elangovan, a former Union Minister.
The TNCC had kickstarted its consultative meeting with elected members and senior party leaders on Sunday with the panel comprising Union Ministers P Chidambaram and GK Vasan, spokeperson Jayanthi Natarajan,MP, TNCC president K V Thangkabalu and K Jayakumar MLA.
They had also called on DMK president M Karunanidhi.
Meanwhile, Congress sources said the 'general feeling' during the consultative meeting, expected to conclude today, was that the party should demand 70 seats and a share in power in the event of the DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) winning the polls.
The Congress with its 34 MLAs lends crucial support for the DMK, which has 99, in the 234-member Tamil Nadu asssembly, and demands of state leaders like Elangovan for cabinet berths for Congressmen has been met with cold response by the ruling party.
