Sri Lanka's Elections Department Sunday announced that elections for 60 local government bodies will not be held on March 17.
The Department says that elections would not be held for the local government bodies that have legal cases pending against the rejection of nomination lists.
Deputy Elections Commissioner W. P. Sumanasiri has told the media that the local government election for 60 bodies cannot be held until the legal trials concerning those are concluded.
The date when elections for those local government bodies would be held is to be announced once the legal proceedings conclude.
The Appeal Court last week issued an interim order preventing the holding of the local government polls in Akuressa, Akmeemana and Moneragala Pradehsiya Sabhas.
