Sri Lanka's Court of Appeal has ordered the Elections Department to hold the local government elections for the Nikaweratiya Pradeshiya Sabha on March 17.
The Court has asked the Elections Commissioner to hold the elections for the local council scheduled after the main opposition United National Party (UNP) has withdrawn its petition filed challenging the rejection of its nomination list.
The Elections Commissioner announced that elections for 67 local government bodies would not be held on March 17 until the court cases filed regarding those bodies are concluded.
