Sri Lanka's Election Department has decided to allow candidates for the local government elections to use posters and banners but not cut-outs for their election campaigns.
Additional Commissioner of Elections W.W. Sumanasiri has told the Government Media Unit that the decision was taken by the Election Commissioner at a discussion held with the representatives of political parties and independent groups contesting the forthcoming Local Government Elections.
"Accordingly the candidates could now use posters in their campaigns without fear of being removed by the police," he has said.
Sumanasiri has said that the parties have agreed to remove the cut-outs put up by them within the next two weeks. If they are not removed by then the police will remove them, he has added.
