Opposition calls on Sri Lankan government to formulate a mechanism on school uniform materials

Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) said today the government has failed to give school uniform material to students for the new school year even two months after the commencement of the school term.

UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told a press conference that the usual practice was to distribute school uniform materials to students a few days after the commencement of the new school term.

He said the government needs to formulate a proper mechanism to distribute school uniform material to students.

Meanwhile, Attanayake also called on Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dishanayake to take action against governing UPFA member and Central Provincial Council Chairman Salinda Dissanayake over an alleged statement made by him.

He charged that Dissanayake had threatened to suspend local government bodies that would be won by the opposition at the forthcoming local government elections.
