Two political groups contesting the forthcoming local government elections in Sri Lanka from the Ratnapura District clashed after handing in nominations today (27).
A group of governing UPFA members headed by Deputy Minister Premalal Jayasekara and an independent group had clashed in the Kahawatte area in Ratnapura.
The police have said that two persons were injured in the clash and admitted to the Ratnapura General Hospital for treatment.
Gunshots have reportedly been fired during the clash and two vehicles belonging to the deputy minister have also been damaged in the clash.
According to the police, both groups have lodged complaints on the incident with the Kahawatte police.
