More than seven lakh graduates and about 1.3 lakh teachers in Tamil Nadu would decide the fate of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Council elections to be held soon. The state election commission released the final electoral list on Thursday. Of the total 7,78,509 graduates, 4,55,184 are males and 2,83,325 females. In the teachers constituencies, female voters outnumber men by 6,051. Out of the total 1,37,929 teachers, who have enrolled their names in the final electoral rolls, the number of women is 71,990 and men 65,939.
Chennai recorded the highest number of 24,062 teachers when compared to other areas. The number of graduate voters who enrolled in the city is 1,10,018.
Tamil Nadu East Central, which consists of Tiruchi, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur and Thanjavur districts, has the maximum number of graduate voters, 1,29,251, as compared to other zones.
In Tamil Nadu West, which consists of Erode, Nilgiris,Coimbatore, Karur and Tiruppur districts only 82,527 graduates have registered their names in the electoral rolls. The least number of 15,836 teachers was enrolled in Tamil Nadu south central, which consists of Dindigul, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, Madurai and Ramnathapuram Districts. There are seven constituencies each for graduates and teachers in the state. The constituencies are Chennai, Tamil Nadu north, Tamil Nadu north central, Tamil Nadu west, Tamil Nadu east central, Tamil Nadu south central and Tamil Nadu south. In Tamil Nadu north, 82,874 graduates and 19,698 teachers enrolled, Tamil Nadu north central 12,0571 graduates, 19,747 teachers, Tamil Nadu west 82,527 graduates, 17,375 teachers, Tamil Nadu east central 1,29,251 graduates, 20,323 teachers, Tamil Nadu south central 1,08,381 graduates, 15,836 teachers and Tamil Nadu south the number of graduates is 1,04,887 and the strength of the teachers is 20,886.
Chief electoral officer Praveen Kumar said the electoral list will be given to the political parties, which are contesting.
