Sri Lankan government to repair flood-damaged reservoirs before next season

The Sri Lankan government is taking measures to repair and restore all the water reservoirs damaged due to the recent floods in the north central and eastern part of the country before the next cultivation season.

Minister of Irrigation and Water Management Nimal Siripala De Silva has said that the farmers will be provided with irrigation facilities to enhance their living standards.

According to the irrigation officials around 170 small irrigation tanks in Batticaloa, Polonnaruwa, Ampara, and Anuradhapura districts have been destroyed while 172 were partly destroyed.

De Silva has castigated the opposition parties of criticizing the government but not taking any action to help the flood victims.

The Minister was participating in a ceremony held in Ampara Town Hall Sunday to hand over equipments worth 110 million rupees to the irrigation engineers of the Ampara and Batticaloa districts for irrigational reconstruction activities.
