Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) has said it would concentrate more on campaigning among the grassroots level for the forthcoming local government elections.
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake has told the media that the party would therefore limit its large scale rallies during the local government election campaign.
According to Attanayake, the election campaign would be used as an awareness campaign to educate the masses about the present plight of the country and the real issues faced by the people.
The secretary has also noted that attention would be paid to increase the women representation in the local government bodies when allocating nominations.
