Sri Lanka Air Force helicopters fly rescue missions, drop dry rations to flood victims in Eastern Province


The Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) helicopters today dropped dry rations in the Batticaloa District for the people stranded due to heavy floods in the Eastern Province.

SLAF Spokesperson Group Captain Janaka Nanayakkara told the media that the SLAF MI-17 helicopter dropped dry rations in the Thoppigala area this morning.
The SLAF had dropped 2.5 tons of dry rations in the Batticaloa area.

Nanayakkara said that a further 24 persons were rescued by an SLAF Bell 212 from flooded areas in the Ampara District.

The chopper has carried out three shuttles for the rescue mission where 8 individuals from Tampitiya and 16 from Bogamuyaya were flown away for safety.
