The Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources Management has formulated a programme to sell the produce of the Mahaweli zones in Colombo at concessionary rates.
Subject Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva speaking to Newsfirst said that the step had been taken to prevent the price of consumer goods from increasing due to the extreme weather conditions experienced in the island. As a preliminary measure this programme will be implemented tomorrow and the day after and then again on the 24th and 25th of this month.
The ministry also noted that rice, vegetables, grains, eggs and curd would be sold at prices which were 30 to 40 per cent below market prices.
