Sri Lanka's Elections Department has rejected the nomination papers filed by the governing party for the local government bodies in the major Tamil constituency, Jaffna District.
Assistant Elections Commissioner for the Jaffna District, A.S. Guhanadan has told the media that the nomination papers handed by the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) for all 16 local government bodies in the Jaffna District have been rejected.
The government has said that legal action would be taken with regard to the matter.
Meanwhile, the governing UPFA's nomination lists for the Nuwara-Eliya Pradeshiya Sabha and Lindula-Talawakele Urban Council have also been rejected.
