Condemning the recent killing of a fisherman allegedly by the Sri Lankan Navy, AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa today appealed to the Centre to take steps in ensuring that such incidents do not recur.
Blaming Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for "not taking any steps" to prevent such attacks, Jayalalithaa in a statement said, "He (Karunanidhi) sends an emissary when there is an issue on 2G spectrum or related to alliance (between Congress and DMK), but just sends letters and telegrams on the attacks on fishermen."
Alleging that the Centre was remaining a "mute spectator" on the issue, she said the Union government seemed "incapable of taking action to avoid such incidents."
She also expressed condolence to the families of the fishermen who had lost their lives in such attacks.
A fisherman from Pudukottai in Tamil Nadu was killed in alleged firing by Sri Lankan Navy off Jegathapattinam coast on Wednesday.
