The Commander of Indian Air Force Air Chief Marshal Pradeep Vasant Naik arrived in Colombo today for a four-day visit while Pakistan's Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani is scheduled to arrive on Wednesday (19).
Indian Air Chief was awarded a warm welcome by his Sri Lankan counterpart Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonetilleke at the airport.
Chief Marshal Naik who is here to hold discussions on strengthening bilateral defence corporation will meet President, Mahinda Rajapaksa, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris, and the Commanders of the tri-forces. He is also scheduled to visit the Flying Squadrons of the Sri Lanka Air Force.
Corporation in national and regional security are to be focused in the discussions the Indian Air Force Commander is to have with the leaders of Sri Lanka.
Pakistani Army Chief's visit is to overlap with the Indian Air Chief's departure on Wednesday.
During his three-day visit General Kayani will also meet President Rajapaksa and several senior military and political leaders and hold discussions on strengthening bilateral military relationship, sources said. He is also scheduled to visit several military establishments in the country.
Indian Air Force Commander's visit follows the visit by Indian Navy chief Admiral Nirmal Kumar Verma last month who was in the country to participate in Sri Lanka Navy's 60th anniversary celebrations.
The Indian Army Chief, General Vijay Kumar Singh paid a visit in September last year on a five-day official visit.
