Indian government Friday handed over 112 million rupees worth medical equipment to Sri Lanka's Jaffna Teaching Hospital.
India's High Commissioner in Colombo Ashok K. Kantha handed over the medical equipment to Jaffna Teaching Hospital in the presence of Sri Lanka Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena at a ceremony today, press release from the High Commission said.
Governor of Northern Province Major General G.A Chandrasiri and officials of Ministry also attended the ceremony.
The donation was in response to a request from Jaffna Teaching Hospital to upgrade the facilities at the Teaching Hospital.
Under this project, modern equipment for the Intensive Care Unit, Eye Ward, and Operation Theater were supplied under Government of India grant assistance.
"Government of India has taken several steps to assist in the on-going rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts in the Northern Province and would continue to work towards this important objective. Augmentation of the health services available to the people of Jaffna was an initiative to fulfill this objective," the press release said.
