Former MPs of Sri Lanka's main opposition pledges support to Premadasa

Several former parliamentarians of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) have pledged their support to UNP Hambantota District parliamentarian Sajith Premadasa to take over the party leadership.

The group of parliamentarians has decided to hand over a letter to Opposition and UNP Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe requesting him to step down from the party leadership in order to make way for Premadasa to take over the post.

Former UNP legislator M.D. Premaratne told a press conference that the group planned to meet with Wickremasinghe today to hand over the letter.

The members who are expected to hand over the letter to Wickremasinghe are former UNP MPs Gemunu Abeysundara, M.D. Premaratne, Vincent Dias, Reginald Perera, Anura Bastian, and D.M. Bandaranayake.
