Mrs. Eknaligoda accompanied by her children today, on the first anniversary of his disappearance, handed over a petition to the UN office in Colombo requesting assistance to find the missing cartoonist and columnist. The journalist of the Lanka-e-News website who was known for his anti government news and cartoons went missing without a trace just days before the presidential election last year.
Launching an international support campaign the media right group Reporters Sans Frontiers (RSF) condemned the Sri Lankan government's "failure to assign resources to the investigation into Prageeth�s disappearance."
The organization says it has just relayed an appeal to the organizers of the Galle Literary Festival taking place in the southern city of Galle from 26 to 30 January to give some thought to the situation of dissident writers, journalists, and cartoonists in Sri Lanka, including Prageeth.
In her letter, Mrs. Eknaligoda has requested UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to pressure the government to investigate her husband's disappearance.
