After snub, Karunanidhi finally meets Prime Minister

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi met at the Raj Bhawan in Chennai this morning, after Karunanidhi snubbed the Prime Minister last evening by not receiving him at the Chennai airport.

This is the first meeting between the two leaders since the resignation of former Telecom Minister A Raja in the 2G scam.

Dismissing rumours of any tension between the Congress and the DMK, the Chief Minister said the ties between the DMK and Congress were "strong".

"It is as strong as the ties between you (media) and me," he told reporters after meeting Dr Singh.During the meeting, Karunanidhi requested the Prime Minister to release more funds for relief works in the districts which faced the monsoon fury last month.

The CM had also cancelled a scheduled one-on-one meeting last evening choosing to attend a Tamil poet's book launch instead.

Earlier the PM had cancelled his inaugural programme of the DMK government's Adyar Park project due to a last minute glitch in obtaining the environment ministry's approval.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate the Science Congress in Chennai today.
