Sri Lanka Ministry of Transport plans to renovate the country's railway stations with modern facilities.
The Ministry will join the Sri Lanka Railways and State Engineering Corporation to renovate and railway stations to include a better service.
Among the new amenities the Ministry hopes to add to the railway stations are shopping complexes and car parks.
The Ministry expects private sector investment in these development projects, a Ministry spokesman said.
Most of Sri Lanka's railway stations including Colombo Fort, Maradana, and Kandy have been built in colonial times and lack modern facilities.
Sri Lanka Railways is considered as one of the main state firms that own prime land. However the land is not utilized properly.
