Sri Lanka to set up new hospital attached to Defense Academy

Sri Lankan government has planned to establish a new teaching hospital in Ratmalana in the outskirts of capital Colombo.

The land has been identified for the hospital and the government expects to spend around Rs. 500 million at the initial stage to establish the hospital.

The building construction is to be completed in three phases during the years 2010/11 and 2012. Sri Lanka Army is entrusted with the construction work.

This teaching hospital is to be attached to the Medical Faculty of the Kotelawala Defence University, defense sources say.

The Medical Faculty of the Kotelawala Defence University was started recently and the medical students of the University receive training at Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Matara, about 100 miles south from Colombo.

The Medical Faculty of the Kotelawala Defence University is to provide facilities to the private medical students as well.
