Sri Lanka Navy troops arrest captors of two rare mammal species

Sri Lanka Naval troops have arrested two persons who were in possession of a pair of rare marine mammal species.

The naval troops attached to SLNS Gajaba in the north central Area arrested two persons with two dugongs, a rare mammal species similar to manatees, in their boat.

The troops arrested the culprits at the Vankalaipadu Fishing Marshalling Point in Thalaimannar on Wednesday (15).

The suspects have been handed over to Fisheries Inspector in Pesalai for legal action, the navy reported.
