Sri Lanka Navy Commander's leadership brings World's navies together at Diamond Jubilee celebrations

Sri Lanka's Navy Commander Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe managed an unprecedented task of bringing together the chiefs of world's largest navies for the Navy's Diamond Jubilee celebrations held earlier this month.


Addressing a media briefing today at SLNS Rangalla in the Port of Colombo, the Navy Commander said navigating beyond the reefs and shallows with understanding and interest, Navies of the World were able to strike a common ground and share experiences to better themselves to face threats to mankind at the Sri Lanka Navy's 60th Anniversary Celebrations.
Eight Naval ships from Bangladesh, China, Iran, India, Pakistan, Russia, and Thailand Navies arrived in Sri Lanka to take part in the Diamond Jubilee celebrations while foreign Navy Commanders and representatives of 21 navies participated in the mega event that was held on December 11th.


Presence of warships from veto power wielding Russia and China and representations from all five Permanent members of the United Nation Security Council were a testimony of Sri Lanka Navy's role in strengthening foreign relationships under the present Navy Chief.
"The unprecedented international naval participation in the SLNS anniversary celebrations with chiefs of navies, senior representatives and major warships representing major powers of the world added greater recognition, significance and importance to our motherland," said the Navy Commander.
The Sri Lanka Navy is showcasing to the entire world its capabilities and the progress the country is making after the victorious humanitarian operation to defeat terrorism, Samarasinghe pointed out.
Expressing his appreciation and satisfaction to all those who were directly and indirectly involved in the celebrations, the Navy Commander said the Sri Lanka Navy rededicates itself with more determination, discipline, honesty, professionalism and values of life to ensure that peace and prosperity will prevail forever.
