Taking on AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa for ‘attacking’ the DMK on the 2G spectrum allocation front, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Tuesday asked his partymen to reach out to the people with incidents allegedly involving his arch-rival.
“You should reach out to people with incidents including those that led to the burning of three women students and the case against her at Bangalore,” he wrote in the party mouthpiece ‘Murasoli’
Mr. Karunanidhi was apparently referring to the burning of a university bus allegedly by AIADMK men after Ms. Jayalalithaa was convicted in the ‘Pleasant Stay Hotel’ case, killing three students and the ongoing disproportionate assets case against her in Bangalore.
He said while CAG, in its report on the 2G spectrum issue, had mentioned a presumptive loss of Rs 1.76 lakh crore, it had quantified Rs 1,033 crore loss in its audit report in 2003-04 (in AIADMK rule) as a result of short levy of taxes.
“A section of media, referring to various sections from the then CAG report, had said thousands of crores of rupees has been lost in various departments, including frequent changing of ministers.
“What did Ms. Jayalalithaa, the then chief minister, do? She not only did not resign, but issued statements slamming CAG. She also said the CAG had not pointed out any glaring losses and that it would be referred to the Public Accounts Committee,” he said.
Noting that Ms. Jayalalithaa had also said no issue could be made out of the CAG findings, he wondered how the same leader could now rely on the CAG report to slam former telecom minister A. Raja and the DMK.
