One killed in robbery attempt

Sri Lanka police fatally shot a robber during a shoot out today in a suburb of Sri Lankan capital, local media reports said.

The incident has occurred in Maharagama on the outskirts of Colombo when a three-member gang has attempted to rob a jewelry pawn shop.
According to the local media, the police have received a tip off on the robbery attempt and have taken measures to nab the gang.

The police had opened fire when a member of the gang had tried to kill the owner of the pawn shop.

One of the suspects had escaped while another was arrested by the police, police spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody had told Daily Mirror online. The Police have also recovered some weapons.

The Maharagama police are conducting further investigations.
