Sri Lanka's opposition party leaders and lawyers staged a protest in front of the Colombo Fort Magistrate court today calling for the release of imprisoned Democratic National Alliance leader and former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka.
The United National Party parliamentarian Sajith Premadasa, Dayasiri Jayasekera and Buddhika Pathirana, DNA Parliamentarian Arjuna Ranatunga, Fonseka's wife Anoma Fonseka, and several others joined the protest organized by the National Lawyers Association (NLA). Fonseka was found guilty by a court martial of four charges related to alleged irregularities in military procurements during his tenure as Army Chief. He is currently serving a 30-month rigorous prison sentence.
