A councilor of Sri Lanka's main opposition surrenders to police for shooting incident

A council member of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party in the North Western Provincial Council has surrendered to the Chilaw Police Sunday after allegedly shooting and injuring several persons last night.

UNP North Western Provincial Councilor Shantha Abeygunasekera has surrendered to the police today for allegedly shooting and injuring two individuals in Chilaw last night after forcibly entering a house over a personnel dispute.

The two persons who were injured in the attack, A. Chamara and J. Saman Dilrukshana were admitted to the Chillaw hospital last night.

Abeygunasekera is also accused of attacking UNP Puttalam District parliamentarian Palitha Range Bandara during the general elections in April this year.
