Sri Lanka Army and wildlife officers in a three-day programme to chase away elephants in the North

The Sri Lanka Army together with wildlife conservation officers have launched a three-day programme to drive away a herd of wild elephants roaming in the Omanthai area in the North.

Vavuniya Range Forest Officer W.J.K. Herath has told the media that the programme will be conducted in the villages in Nettchikulam in Omanthai.

The programme is aimed at erecting an electric fence after the elephants are chased away into the Nedunkerni jungles.

According to Herath, this was the first time the Army is involved in such a programme.

The programme is expected to protect the newly settled villagers from the threat of wild elephants.
