'People's solidarity against evicting of citizens from Colombo' holds a press conference

called 'People's solidarity against evicting of citizens from Colombo' held a press conference in Colombo today protesting the government's moves to evacuate the slum and illegal dwellers to other places.

Marxist People's Liberation Front (JVP) Parliamentarian Sunil Handunneththi addressing the press conference said that the government was attempting to make Colombo Municipality an authority and it was planning to drive away citizens from the city.

"The masses that live in Colombo have got adapted to the environment of the big city, their livelihoods are aligned to the setting, and evicting them from this environment would be a big threat to their existence," pointed out MP Handunneththi.

He said the objective of the 'People's solidarity against evicting of citizens from Colombo' is to defeat the attempt of the government to evict people from the city and many programmes have been planned to achieve their goal.

Several representatives of the citizens too participated at the media briefing.
