Sri Lanka's Disaster Management Center has stated that 53,407 persons from 13,520 families have been affected by the heavy rains and flooding experienced in several Districts.
Two people have died while another five have been seriously injured due to the heavy rains in the past few days, media reports state.
The Disaster Management Center notes that while a total of 61 houses have been completely destroyed some 25 houses have been partially damaged by the floods and rains.
The areas severely affected by floods are the Monaragala, Mannar, Gampaha, Puttalam, Vavuniya, and Jaffna Districts.
The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) meanwhile told the media that there is a high risk of landslides in several areas in the central hills if rains continue.
