Marxist party MP assaulted in Jaffna of Northern Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka's Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) parliamentarian Sunil Handunnetti and three others have been assaulted by a group of unidentified persons in the Northern city of Jaffna this evening.

Handunnetti had arrived in Jaffna today evening to participate in the protest campaign organized for tomorrow in the city calling on the government to reveal the names and details of persons who are being detained by the security forces.

A massive banner is to be signed by politicians and civilians at tomorrow's protest.

At the time of the attack Handunnetti and several other JVP members have been attending a discussion with former Tamil National Alliance MP Padmini Sithambaranadan and her husband at their residence in the Jaffna Town.
