UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told a press conference that the government had reintroduced the Gaming (Special Provisions) Bill in parliament and it is scheduled to be passed when the House meets next week.
Attanayake says the cash strapped government was desperately trying to increase its tax revenue.
According to him, the proposed legislation would give powers to the subject minister to permit the setting up of gaming and betting centers.
